Hong Kong Internet BBS
Hong Kong Internet BBS (香港網站), usually known as HKiBBS, is one of a few of telnet-based BBS in Hong Kong. It is the oldest of existing Internet BBS in Hong Kong. The early system was based on Firebird BBS system.
The BBS was opened in October, 1995. It was then known as TCLBBS as it is sponsored by TCL. In 1996, it became independent and was renamed to HKiBBS. Part of the early BBS data was lost in a fire in 1998 though 40% of data was recovered in Canada in 2000. In 2004, as the Firebird BBS system ceased to develop, the system changed to a successor, Shuimu Tsinghua, of Firebird. The web interface and blog were introduced in the meantime.
The BBS is one of the information sources for residents in mainland China. From 2 May 2005, the BBS suffered from Internet censorship in mainland China and residents in mainland China cannot easily access the BBS.
